The Sierra de Gata is a little-known but magical corner of Spain.
Tucked away in the far North West of the province of Cáceres,
this fascinating region benefits equally from the rain-bearing
Atlantic weather system, and from the sun-kissed Mediterranean.
Its fertile landscapes are a rich tapestry of rural tradition.
At the western end of the Sierra, in a quiet valley, sits El Cabezo,
a marvellous finca (farm) with an idyllic collection of ancient
farm buildings recently converted into six spacious and comfortable
rooms. The comfort of this country house and its exquisite design
have made El Cabezo one of the most sought-after places to stay
in the area. The natural beauty of El Cabezo’s surroundings
is thrilling and unique, and makes a stay here an unforgettable
experience. For us serragatinos the natural world forms part of
our day-to-day life. Nothing about the landscape, the people,
the architecture of the region is new or invented – it has
all been here, unchanged, for centuries. All that remained was
to open it up to a wider world. |
